The State Transport Authority is constituted for Mizoram under section 68 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 with Secretary to the Government of Mizoram, as Chairman. It exercises and discharges the powers and functions conferred on them under the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and Rules made there under, which mainly relate to control of transport by way of grant of permits
